A scratch from a virus creature awakened a latent power — and a stray wolf named Okami proved to be something far more ancient than he appeared. Violet's Essence signature is so strong that Arjun can sense it from half a mile away. By Book 1's end, Okami lives inside her. She is now something the world has not seen in millennia. Distant ancestor of Titus, the Wolf Godtail.

Her arc is the story's most painful: a friend who becomes a mirror, showing Violet the road not taken.

Her goal: revive the Heart of the Land to break the Consulate's grip on global power. Kamui built KAMIO from nothing — a covert network of rogue scientists, ex-soldiers, and idealists who believe bio-enhancement should belong to the people, not corporations. Cold on the surface, burning underneath. She sees Violet's potential before she sees it herself, and bets everything on her.

Ginto is KAMIO's enforcer and Kamui's most trusted operative. Competitive, bro-coded, and thriving in combat. Ginto projects gold gauntlets and a massive war hammer from his projector slots and charges into any fight like it's the best thing that's happened all week. Built like a tank, loyal like a blade, and funny when you least expect it. He has a complicated history with New Rouge's streets — the same ones that broke other people made him. Violet earns his respect the hard way, and that respect means something.

Zeno is KAMIO's intelligence arm — a digital phantom who can be anywhere and nowhere. His arm can transition into a blade mid-sentence. He glides on liquid roller skates and is slowly picking up human slang — to Ginto's endless amusement. His enhancements are neuro-cognitive rather than physical, making him the most dangerous robot in any room who isn't physically imposing, or so he likes to think. Warm in a detached, cryptic way.

Tome Krollo is the most dangerous kind of person in New Rouge: someone the Consulate can't touch. They tried but this ex-soldier was brought back from the brink of death by an enigmatic crime boss with an organized army and team of scientists. He was among the first to be given the virus that plagues New Rouge and it made him one of the strongest Embraced. He eats the hearts of his kills. Noble, powerful, with intentions nobody can read. A wild card in every sense.

Liam is a professional mechsuit brawler and contractor. When the virus outbreak hit his girlfriend was killed by a an infected creature. The grief triggered something in him that cannot be untriggered. He becomes Embraced by the virus and joins Violet's group reluctantly to survive.

Cold. Patient. Genuinely intrigued. Arjun was raised in a compound of Embraced virus holders, rose to its council, then allegedly slaughtered every member to absorb their collective power. He split the Earth. He went dormant. He woke up 750 years later with the same plan and more patience. The primary villain in Godtail — not a raving villain but a true believer. He thinks human enhancement is evolution, and that casualties are acceptable loss for a species-level leap forward. Brilliant, charming, and utterly convinced of his own righteousness. The most dangerous kind of villain: one who thinks he's the hero of a different story.

Megumi designed the virus compound. Where Arjun is the vision, he is the execution — obsessive, exacting, and completely detached from the human cost of his work. He sees subjects as data sets and Violet as a fascinating variable. Cold, precise, devoted. Megumi runs field tests on virus subjects on Arjun's private island. He and government virologist Daniel Jenkins are identical in appearance — save for the hair. The implication of that has not been explained yet.

Welcome to New Rouge

New Rouge is a city built on top of secrets. Voice-activated screens, projector slot technology, holographic broadcasts, and med droids that can seal a wound in seconds — on the surface it's a gleaming futuristic metropolis inside the United Federation. Underneath it runs a ley line: ancient mystical energy that powers the very ground the city stands on. KAMIO Collective built their headquarters directly on top of it. That was not an accident.

The world was not always split into separate continents. Millennia ago, a catastrophic event called The Great Split tore the land mass apart, severing the Heart of the Land — the planet's core of Essence — and draining the ancient magic that sustained gods, monsters, and the first warriors. With Essence depleted, humans built technology in its place. Then the Consulate rose. And then something ancient woke up.

The world moved on. It forgot him.

Arjun surfaces from 750 years of dormancy with a plan: unleash a spiritual virus across New Rouge, seize the ley line beneath KAMIO HQ, and use it to undo the Great Split — reuniting the continents and becoming an all-powerful Kalusepsu himself. One fashion show. One night. A city on fire. And at the center of it all, a 20-year-old track athlete named Violet who carries an Essence signature that Arjun can feel from half a mile away.

Above VBS exist Blessed Animals — spiritual beings of ancient origin stored in Crystal Catchers. The bond between a human and a Blessed Animal is deeper than technology: it is felt. Okami — the wolf who follows Violet — is a Blessed Animal, and his bond with her defies anything the Consulate can manufacture.

At the apex of all power are the Godtails — beings who exist outside of time itself. A Godtail chooses its master and makes a contract or is defeated in combat and usurped. They typically govern their respective domain/species and are extremely long lived. They have all but vanished since a cataclysmic event that happened during the 4 Kings era.

The Consulate

Before Arjun woke up, the Consulate was already winning. A technocracy that rose to global dominance approximately 20 years ago through financial leverage and Brain-Computer Interface technology, the Consulate now controls every nation-state on Earth. Not through armies alone — through ownership.

The virus changed their calculus. Subjects like Hannah — classified as FH11 — are not treated as citizens. They are resources to be studied, modified, and deployed. The Consulate's greatest threat is not Arjun. It is the moment the world realizes the Consulate has always been doing what Arjun is accused of: treating human beings as raw material for a larger plan.

Technocracy. Controls all world nation-states. Each has a President reporting to the Prime Minister.

A BCI entity — brain and DNA compiled from former world leaders combined with human biological material.
Imperial Power
PM's unique ability: absolute control of her domain and robotic subjects, high-data projections. Cannot enter or harm humans — human dignity preset is hardcoded. For now.
BCI Market
Rigidly controlled by the Consulate. Black market exists. The gap between legal and illegal access defines who has power in modern New Rouge.
Future Arc Threat
The PM is moving toward Liquid Metal / digital projected Earth goals. The human dignity preset is scheduled for removal. At that point, Imperial Power has no limits.
